Weatherill’s 3 dollar bills Ordinary South Australian households will be outraged at the Weatherill Government’s pitiful offer of a three dollar cut in their ESL tax bills in this year’s State Budget. “Three years ago the Weatherill Government financially mugged struggling South Australian families and now expects them to be grateful because he throws them $3 for a small cup of coffee,” said Shadow Treasurer Rob Lucas. “Jay Weatherill may as well hand out three dollar bills for all this pitiful reduction is worth. “I challenge the Premier to tell us what he’ll be spending his ESL savings on. “The Labor Party is continuing its punitive tax policies that have driven the South Australian economy into the ground and given South Australia the highest unemployment rate in the country for 29 months in succession. “By way of contrast the Liberal Party will cut ESL bills and return $360 million over four years to South Australia households and businesses. “That is money that can be spent in the local economy driving investment and jobs growth in South Australia. “That is going to provide much needed relief for many struggling South Australian families. “The Weatherill Government was warned when it jacked up the ESL tax by hundreds of percent that its tax grab would hurt jobs growth in South Australia. “South Australian households and businesses are already struggling with the highest electricity prices in the country, yet the Weatherill Government will continue its ESL tax grab for another four years if returned at the 2018 state election. “The Weatherill Government’s massive increases in the ESL tax hasn’t just hit homeowners; it is also levied on sporting clubs, community organisations, churches and independent schools.”
