Shadow Health Minister Rob Lucas has called on Premier Weatherill to recommit to his Labor Government’s redevelopment of the Flinders Medical Centre (FMC) before the release of the State Budget in June.
During the recent state election, the Weatherill Labor Government committed $117.5 million to redevelop the Flinders Medical Centre, which included building two new wards, redeveloping six current wards and upgrading the neonatal unit.
“South Australians deserve a Government that delivers what it promises,” said Mr Lucas.
“Let’s not forget that this State Labor Government has spent 12 years making and breaking promises.
“Of course, Mr Weatherill has been a Cabinet Minister for 12 years.
“Mr Weatherill must tell South Australians before the June State Budget whether or not his $117.5 million FMC redevelopment still stands.
“Under the Weatherill Labor Government’s management, the FMC has experienced ramping problems over an extended period of time.
“We also know that the Weatherill Labor Government must find $1,033 million in health budget cuts, thanks to its financial mismanagement of the health budget over the past 12 years.
“South Australians deserve to know whether or not the FMC redevelopment will go ahead in its current form, before the State Budget is delivered in June.”
