Shadow Finance Minister Rob Lucas today called for Premier Weatherill to provide answers to questions about the cost of termination payments and new public sector jobs for ministerial staffers employed by former Premier Rann’s ministry.
Justice Chief Executive Jerome Maguire told the Budget and Finance Committee today that Mr Rann’s former Chief of Staff Nick Alexandrides had been placed in a executive position in the Crown Solicitor’s Office, paying more than $200,000 per year.
Mr Maguire confirmed that Mr Alexandrides’ legal entitlement was actually only to return to his fallback position of Senior Legal Officer in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, which the government website indicates is paid about $125,000 per year.
Mr Maguire also indicated that Mr Rann’s former media adviser Lachlan Parker had been given a six month contract position in the communications section of the Attorney General’s Department, and that the final contract details were still being negotiated.
The Liberal Opposition has previously raised the question whether Mr Rann’s former economic adviser Rowan Roberts was also about to receive her second termination payment in the space of just over twelve weeks.
“In the last parliamentary sitting week Premier Weatherill was asked by the Liberal Opposition to provide details on the level of termination payments for any former ministerial staffers and spin doctors, but we are still waiting for an answer,” Shadow Finance Minister Rob Lucas said.
“Premier Weatherill should also now reveal details of any public sector jobs organised for any former ministerial staffers and spin doctors.”
