Premier Rann and the Labor Party had been embarrassingly caught out abusing the Government’s email database to circulate Labor Party campaign material to the state’s public servants.
“This is also a clear breach of the Caretaker Conventions Mr Rann and his Government should be observing,” Shadow Minister for Finance Rob Lucas said today.
“Mr Rann has been caught out abusing the Government’s email database to circulate Labor Party campaign material.
“This is incredibly embarrassing for Mr Rann only days from the State Election.
“In one case, the Rann Government through the Department for Education and Children’s Services has circulated to its email database “Labor’s commitments to students with a disability”.
“The email included Mr Rann’s media release and policy on disability support, with details of funding commitments from the Labor Party and authorisation from State Secretary Michael Brown.
“This clearly shows that Mr Rann and the Labor Party have been caught out abusing resources available to Government.
“This database gives Mr Rann a tremendous competitive advantage over other parties and candidates in the days before the State Election.
“The Liberal Party has today written to Chris Eccles, CEO of the Department for the Premier and Cabinet, to seek an urgent investigation and response to Mr Rann’s abuse of the Government’s email database.
“Public servants in their workplaces should not be subject to Party political campaigning by Mr Rann and the Labor Party.
“It is clear that the people of South Australia can no longer trust Mr Rann to lead our state.”
