Another day of ramping at Flinders Medical Centre has confirmed yet again that the South Australian health system is out of control.
“The situation this afternoon was as bad as many long-term observers have ever seen,” said Shadow Health Minister Rob Lucas.
“Every public hospital in metropolitan Adelaide was significantly over capacity. The situation was particularly bad at Flinders Medical Centre, which just after 2:00pm was operating at about 180 per cent capacity.
“At 2:00pm, there were 30 patients waiting to be seen at Flinders Medical Centre, and the average wait time was more than 80 minutes.
“Contrary to claims and promises by the Weatherill Government, ramping at Flinders Medical Centre is only getting worse.
“And as we have seen today, Flinders Medical Centre is certainly not the only metropolitan hospital under serious pressure.
“All emergency departments in metropolitan hospitals at 2:17pm today were operating at more than 100 per cent capacity. For example, the Royal Adelaide Hospital was operating at about 150 per cent capacity.
“The Government has promised that regular updates on the implementation of the recommendations of the Monaghan Review would be posted on the SA Health website but we haven’t seen anything in months.
“Either the Labor Government is not implementing all the recommendations of the Monaghan Review, or they are implementing them and they are not working.
“Mr Weatherill and Mr Snelling now need to indicate what they are going to do to resolve these problems.”
