A rally will be held on the steps of Parliament House this morning to protest against the closure of the Modbury Hospital Paediatric ward.
Shadow Health Minister Rob Lucas said Premier Weatherill’s plan to close the Modbury Hospital paediatric ward was a cruel blow to families in the north eastern suburbs.
“Unlike Labor, State Liberal Leader Steven Marshall and the Liberal team are committed to a paediatric ward at Modbury Hospital with the ongoing provision of existing paediatric services,” said Mr Lucas.
“The paediatric ward provides a vital service for local families and Steven Marshall and the State Liberal team will ensure it remains if elected to government in March next year.
“Not only will the paediatric ward be closed but many specialized services such as paediatric ENT services and dental surgery will be lost.
“Sick or injured children who are assessed as needing to be admitted to a hospital will need to wait on average for three hours for an ambulance to transport them to the Lyell McEwin Hospital.
“The Weatherill Labor Government also recently announced it would cut 82 jobs and 30 beds at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
“South Australians deserve a government with better priorities to get our State back on track.”
Today’s rally against the closure of the Modbury Hospital paediatric ward will be held on the steps of Parliament House at 11am.
