Shadow Police Minister Rob Lucas said today that the latest revelation about the driver caught speeding at 175 km/h with a blood alcohol level of 0.151 now raised the question as to how many other drivers have not lost their licences automatically as intended by the legislation.
“This ongoing fiasco with the Rann Government’s road safety laws means Mr Rann must now answer the following questions,” Mr Lucas said.
“Q1: How many drivers have been detected with blood alcohol readings of 0.08 or more who should have had their licences automatically suspended but did not lose their licences automatically?
“Q2: How many drivers have been detected exceeding the speed limit by 45 km/h or more who should have had their licences automatically suspended but did not lose their licences automatically?
“Given that it has now been confirmed that this fiasco may continue until the end of July, Mr Rann should also reveal SAPOL’s estimate of the number of drivers likely not to lose their licences automatically over the next three weeks.
“Mr Rann and his hapless Ministers – Atkinson and Conlon – stand condemned for this series of embarrassing bungles.”
