The Weatherill Labor Government must urgently address safety concerns at the new Royal Adelaide Hospital construction site, Shadow Industrial Relations Minister Rob Lucas said today.
Media outlets reported yesterday that a crane collided with a concrete pump, causing damage.
Mr Lucas said the Government must not repeat the tragic circumstances that marred the construction of the $2.2 billion Lonsdale desalination plant.
“Fortunately nobody was injured yesterday, but the fact that this is the fifth incident in ten months at the site is extremely alarming,” said Mr Lucas.
“Worker safety at the NRAH site must be the Weatherill Labor Government’s top priority. “In an ideal world, projects are delivered on time, on budget and safely.
“Sadly, the Weatherill Government is failing South Australians on all three of these criteria.
“Not only does the NRAH site continue to be plagued by serious safety concerns, but there have been growing concerns about multimillion dollar cost blowouts and unions and the CEO of SA Health have warned the project may be delayed.
“The Legislative Council Budget and Finance Committee inquiry into the progress of the NRAH project, announced on Tuesday, is therefore absolutely vital.”
