Shadow Health Minister Rob Lucas said today the State Liberals would not support any Labor Government attempts to siphon off doctor funds to pay hospital operating costs such as electricity bills.
Australian Medical Association President Dr Peter Sharley expressed concern today that research funds and medical equipment funds were under threat because of Labor Government plans to use them for hospital operating costs:
“We don’t want to see research money diverted to pay hospital power bills.”
“With this Labor Government’s record of financial mismanagement, the AMA is right to be suspicious of any Government proposals along these lines,” said Mr Lucas.
“The State Liberals do not believe the Auditor-General would support the use of funds held in these special purpose trust funds being used to pay hospital operating costs.
“The State Liberals would support any measures to ensure proper accountability and controls over spending out of these accounts.”
