Shadow Minister for Industrial Relations, Rob Lucas, has cautiously welcomed the passage of the Return to Work Bill through Parliament yesterday.
“The State Liberals are hopeful that this Bill will achieve its stated outcomes for the benefit of workers and employers alike,” said Mr Lucas.
“For 12 years, Premier Jay Weatherill and the Labor Government have financially mismanaged the WorkCover scheme, which had been a disaster for workers and employers.
“The Return to Work Bill was introduced to Parliament as South Australia had the highest levy rate in the country, an unfunded liability of $1.2 billion and the worst return to work rate in the country.
“Genuine reform in this area has been long overdue.
“The State Liberals are cautiously optimistic that genuine reform will occur with the passage of this Bill after 12 years of Labor’s mess.”
