The State Liberals are calling on the Weatherill Labor Government to reveal the cost of government ads promoting its tax reform discussion and Transforming Health plan.
In a Tax Review paper released earlier this month, Premier Weatherill has suggested introducing a broad-based property tax be introduced to replace conveyance duty, costing South Australian families $1,200 every year.
The Weatherill Labor Government has now embarked on a new advertising campaign to promote this discussion paper, but has not revealed the cost of the campaign.
Meanwhile, the Weatherill Labor Government has also begun advertising its controversial Transforming Health discussion paper, with consultation closing on Friday.
The Transforming Health plan proposes closing the Repatriation General Hospital, St Margaret’s Hospital and Hampstead Rehabilitation Centre and effectively strip the QEH, Noarlunga and Modbury Hospitals of their Emergency Departments.
“The Weatherill Labor Government has previously run expensive ad campaigns, including $1.2 million on its More than Cars campaign and $1 million on a campaign attacking the Federal Government’s Budget,” said Shadow Treasurer Rob Lucas.
“The Government is also about to commence a $500,000 ad campaign attacking the Federal Government over the submarine procurement issue.
“At a time when South Australian families are struggling with ever-increasing cost of living pressures and businesses are struggling under the highest taxes in the nation, the Weatherill Labor Government is spending money on more advertising campaigns.
“This is just another example of the Weatherill Labor Government’s wrong priorities.
“South Australians deserve an honest and transparent Government – not continued secrecy under the Weatherill Labor Government.
“Given the Weatherill Labor Government’s history of running expensive ad campaigns, Premier Weatherill must reveal the cost of these latest campaigns.”
