Mr Koutsantonis and Mr Weatherill are hypocrites for arguing they have the right to demand the car park tax be passed in the budget debate, Shadow Treasurer Rob Lucas said today.
“Mr Koutsantonis has been trying to bully MPs into supporting the car park tax on the basis that MPs had to pass the State budget,” said Mr Lucas.
“He has also tried to raise unnecessary alarm by suggesting doctors and nurses might not be paid if the budget bills were amended to stop the car park tax.
“However, at the same time, Mr Weatherill and Mr Koutsantonis are leading the charge for the Senate to ‘gut’ the Federal Government’s budget bills by voting against a large number of sections of the budget legislation.
“They have been quite happy to argue the Senate can and should amend Federal Budget bills without any concerns about public servants not being paid.
“The hypocrisy of Mr Weatherill and Mr Koutsantonis’s stance is clearly evident for all to see and they won’t be allowed to get away with it.
“Mr Weatherill and Mr Koutsantonis need to explain to South Australian taxpayers why they don’t believe MPs should vote against their car park tax but they do want Federal MPs to vote against key parts of the Federal Budget.”
