Shadow Treasurer Rob Lucas said today claims by Water Minister Ian Hunter that SA Water was spending an extra $55 million over 4 years in pipe network renewal has been ‘blown out of the water.’
Evidence from SA Water CEO Roch Cheroux to the Budget and Finance Committee has confirmed that SA Water spending on ‘Pipe Network Renewal’ this year will be less than last year.
In fact Mr. Cheroux confirmed that spending in 3 out of the next 4 years will be less than actual spending in 2015 / 2016.
Clearly with the exception of 2017 / 2018 there are very significant reductions in spending on pipe renewal projects when compared to the $57.9 m spent in 2015 / 2016.
Mr. Hunter must now come clean and explain publicly his claims that an ‘extra $55m over 4 years’ was going to be spent on pipe network renewal.
SA Water’s evidence to the Budget and Finance Committee clearly refutes Mr. Hunter’s claims.
Sadly this appears to be yet another example of political spin and deception by Mr. Hunter and the Weatherill Government to try and explain away the inept and incompetent performance of the Minister in managing his portfolio.
