The Rann Government has refused to answer key questions about the claimed independent review of the 2008 WorkCover Act changes, Shadow Industrial Relations Minister Rob Lucas said today.
“In January this year the Rann Government announced Bill Cossey and Chris Latham, a senior partner in the Sydney office of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC), would conduct the review,” Mr Lucas said.
“At about the same time (December 2010), the WorkCover Board commissioned a secret report from John Walsh, also a partner in exactly the same Sydney office of PWC.
“This review is into rehabilitation services and return to work issues which are absolutely critical aspects of the Labor Government-commissioned review of the 2008 WorkCover Act changes.
“So, in summary, the Rann Government has appointed a company to conduct an independent review when that same office of the same company was already working for the WorkCover Board on issues central to the independent review.
“The hapless, fumbling, bumbling new Industrial Relations Minister Bernie Finnigan refused to answer a number of questions today, and in particular, what probity protocols, if any, have been implemented by either the Rann Government or the WorkCover Board.
It should be noted this release makes no criticism of the company involved or its employees, but rather is directed at the appointment processes of the Rann Government and the WorkCover Board.
