There is a major division between two senior Rann Government Ministers over how they will achieve their key Budget measure of cutting 1571 public service jobs, Shadow Treasurer Rob Lucas said today.
“In yesterday’s Budget lock-up Treasurer Kevin Foley made it clear to journalists that targeted voluntary separation packages (TVSPs) would be offered to public servants as part of the process of achieving the cut,” Mr Lucas said.
“However, today the Minister Assisting the Premier in Public Sector Management, Jay Weatherill, claims the jobs will be cut through natural attrition and that there are no plans to offer redundancy packages in the public sector.
“It is clear the Rann Government is in disarray over the key element of the Budget announced yesterday.
“Having gone back on its election promise not to fund its commitments by cutting public sector jobs*, the Rann Government is now at odds with itself over the method of delivering this broken promise.
