Labor MP John Rau’s campaign material from last week had revealed that even Labor MPs would prefer Isobel Redmond to Mike Rann.
“In an extraordinary revelation Mr Rau cynically has tried to give the impression he has the endorsement of Isobel Redmond when that isn’t the case,” Liberal MLC Rob Lucas said today.
“The leaflet includes the quote from Hansard: “…the Member for Enfield is an enormous talent – the standout talent on that side.”
“Whilst Ms Redmond might think Mr Rau is the “best of a bad lot” on the Labor side, she knows Mr Rau is no match for Luke Westley who is the Liberal Party’s outstanding and energetic candidate in Enfield.
“Put simply, even though Mr Rau could have included an endorsement from his own leader Mike Rann, he obviously prefers to pretend he has an endorsement from Isobel Redmond.
“Not only do the majority of South Australians prefer and trust Ms Redmond more than Mr Rann, so too do Labor MPs.
“In further signs of dissent, Mr Rau on Sunday afternoon spoke at a public forum at the Broadview Uniting Church, telling those present that he did not agree with Mr Rann’s plans to create “Super Schools” in the area.
“In fact, Mr Rau said the first he heard about the plan was on television!
Mr Rau said to those present: “Do I think that this is the best possible outcome? No, I don’t; no, I don’t” (please find attached audio file).
“Rann Government MPs are increasingly starting to question policies they know are not in the best interests of the community,” he said.
“After eight long years, Mr Rann and the Labor Party have run out of fresh ideas and vision for South Australia.
“Put simply, South Australians no longer trust Mr Rann to deliver results for our state.”
