Extravagant and unreasonable travel and entertainment expenses by Rann Government Ministers showed how arrogant and out of touch Premier Rann and Treasurer Foley had become.
“At a time when public servants’ wage rises are being restricted to 2.5 per cent and services and programmes are being cut across the board, how can Mr Rann and Mr Foley justify expenses such as spending $29 for a glass of Moet and $100 for bottles of wine at lunches and dinners?”
“Mr Foley has been preaching since last year’s State Budget about the impacts of the global financial crisis and the need to cut 1600 public service jobs and find another $750 million in budget cuts after the next election,” Shadow Minister for Finance Rob Lucas said today.
“Yet, all we see is so much money being wasted on travel and entertainment.
“Whilst the record of Mr Foley with travel and entertainment expenses has been well publicised, new Minister “Turbo” Tom Koutsantonis has come out of the blocks at breakneck speed.
“Appointed a Minister in March this year, Mr Koutsantonis has managed 12 separate taxpayer funded lunches and dinners in just four months.”

“Mr Koutsantonis has obviously started his Ministerial career at world record pace, racking up almost $4000 in bills to his turbo-charged credit card,” Mr Lucas said.
“Mr Koutsantonis should explain publicly who his guests were at each of these lunches and what Ministerial business was being transacted.
“Families looking for improved mental health and disability services will be outraged when they see how much money is being wasted by Rann Government Ministers on travel and entertainment.”
