More details on ‘Cartridgegate’ emerge

Monday, 14 November 2011

Further details on the extent of the ‘Cartridgegate’ scandal were released by Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure Chief Executive Rod Hook today.

Mr Hook told the Legislative Council Budget and Finance Committee they had uncovered “two instances” of printer cartridge rorting in the Department.

Mr Hook indicated that incidents within Services SA and the Transport Services Division had been referred to the Crown Solicitor’s Office for advice and in one case the matter had now been referred to South Australia Police for investigation.

Shadow Finance Minister Rob Lucas said the Liberal Party has been provided with details of about 15-20 invoices within the Gawler office of Services SA totalling more than $30,000 of printer cartridge purchases.

“The Liberal Party has also been given information that Transport Department officers uncovered at least one invoice from another section of the Department – the Transport SA Driver Training and Audit Section at Oaklands Road,” Mr Lucas said.

“It is concerning that it appears there are more sections of the Transport and Infrastructure caught up in the ‘Cartridgegate’ scandal than the two ‘instances’ referred to by Mr Hook.”

Mr Hook advised the Committee he would seek further advice from his internal audit officers about these further claims and provide answers to the Committee.
