The State Government has welcomed BankSA’s latest Consumer and Business Confidence Survey results - released today - which shows business confidence is at an eight-year high.
The BankSA State Monitor July 2018 – the first conducted since the March election – also revealed consumer confidence is at its highest level in four years and there is now greater pride in the State since the change of government.
"The results are promising and provide a clear indication of a renewed sense of optimism among businesses and households in South Australia,’’ said Treasurer Rob Lucas.
"Importantly, businesses have indicated a higher intention to employ more people in the coming months (particularly in the construction, manufacturing and retail sectors) and there is a perception that the climate for doing business in SA has improved.
"The BankSA State Monitor makes specific mention of the change of government and our strong economic reform agenda, as being likely positive contributing factors to the upswing in overall business and consumer confidence.
"But there’s still a significant amount of work to do.
"That’s why we are getting on with slashing ESL bills by $90 million a year, abolishing payroll tax for all small businesses and investing more than $200 million with the Federal Government to create an additional 20,000 apprenticeships and traineeships over the next four years.
"Not to mention the $90 billion naval shipbuilding program which will create jobs and significant economic opportunity for businesses in the supply chain."
