Want a $198k job for 17 hours a week?

Thursday, 5 March 2015

Premier Weatherill is now paying the sacked Chief Executive of his Department $198,565 for 17 hours a week in a new job.

Documents made available under FOI laws show Jim Hallion has now been redeployed by Mr Weatherill on a five year contract from 1 January 2015 as the State Coordinator General.

It should also be noted when Mr Hallion was first appointed as Coordinator General in July 2014 it was accepted as part of his job as Chief Executive of the Department of Premier and Cabinet. In fact in October Mr Weatherill claimed Mr Hallion was handling more than 90 separate developments as Coordinator General.

The contract reveals Mr Hallion is only required to work an ‘average of 17 hours per week’ and the Minister has the option in 2020 to reappoint him for another five year term.

The contract also allows Mr Hallion to have another job if he chooses subject to certain conflict provisions.

This decision by Mr Weatherill comes hot on the heels of him giving his new Chief Executive and former Labor staffer Kym Winter-Dewhirst a $125,000 pay rise for a total contract of $550,000 p.a.

It can also be revealed Mr Weatherill is also still employing a third former Chief Executive of his Department, Mr Warren McCann. Mr McCann is believed to be fulfilling a role as Mr Weatherill’s ‘internal consultant’ and is being paid up to $160,000 for his part time position.

“South Australian families struggling to pay ever increasing taxes and charges will be outraged that Mr Weatherill is happy to pay so much money to senior public servants,” said Shadow Treasurer Rob Lucas.

“They would be shaking their heads with disbelief at $125,000 pay increases and part time jobs that pay $198,000 for just 17 hours work a week.

“Sadly this is yet another example of the warped priorities of Mr Weatherill and his Government.

“Mr Weatherill must explain how he can justify decisions such as closing the Repat Hospital and hospital emergency departments whilst wasting money on massive salaries for his senior public servants.”
