Rann & Foley cannot be trusted on policy or promises

Friday, 26 February 2010

If Kevin Foley wants to know about the State Liberals’ policies, he should start paying attention to detail and realise Labor has played “follow the Liberal Leader” for a long time now.

“Mr Foley’s audacity on this issue is an embarrassment to himself and the Labor Party,” Liberal MLC Rob Lucas said today.

“Mr Rann and Mr Foley know they have played “follow the Liberal Leader” on at least nine occasions in recent times.”

Mr Lucas said they include:

• Land tax reform
• TASER devices for police officers
• Desalination plants
• Stormwater reuse
• Easing water restrictions
• Riverland Recovery Fund
• Magill Training Centre
• City Stadium proposal
• Oval facilities in Port Augusta

“Now Mr Foley is trying to “spin a line” that the State Liberals are only following Labor’s lead and have no policies,” he said.

“Perhaps Mr Rann and Mr Foley would like to copy more of the State Liberals’ policies, including:

• Establishment of an Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC)
• Rebuilding the RAH on its existing site
• Providing over $180 million for Regional Development Infrastructure Fund (RDIF)
• Reusing stormwater for drinking water

“Whilst Mr Rann and Mr Foley continue to make election promises, people have stopped listening as they don’t trust Mr Rann and Mr Foley any more after eight years of broken promises.”

Mr Rann and Mr Foley’s broken promises include:

• An expansion of the Mt Bold Reservoir
• Bulldozing bikie fortresses
• No new taxes or increases in taxes
• Lower electricity and water prices
• Stop “political” government advertising
• Honesty and accountability in Government
• Underpass at the intersection of South and Sturt Roads
• Underpass along South Road beneath Port and Grange Roads
• Tramline extension to North Adelaide
• Solution to the Britannia Roundabout problem
• Prison at Murray Bridge

“And remember, it was Treasurer Kevin Foley who told Parliament in June 2002, “You do not have the moral fibre to go back on your promise. I have…”

“The reality is Mr Rann, Mr Foley and the Labor Party are void of fresh ideas and vision for South Australia,” Mr Lucas said.
