Hands off our parks, Mr Rann

Sunday, 7 February 2010

Plans by the Rann Government to allow developers to build a $5 million hotel complex on a public park in Paradise in a secret land swap deal is another example of a government that has stopped listening to the people.

Shadow Minister for Finance Rob Lucas said the controversial development had been supported by local Labor MP Lindsay Simmons, who is quoted in the media as saying:

”It really is one of the most under used beautiful parks we have in South Australia”.

“This deal was done once again without any community consultation and follows similar controversial projects like the St Clair land swap and the sale of Cheltenham Park racecourse,” Mr Lucas said.

“The new complex is being described as an upmarket development including a function centre, poker machines and car park.”

Liberal Candidate for Morialta John Gardner said “public parks are for the people and the people should be consulted before developments like this are given the go ahead.”

“Lindsay Simmons, like Mike Rann, has stopped listening to the community.

“The only way to stop the destruction of our parks is to vote for a Redmond Liberal Government.

“A Redmond Liberal Government will block this development on the park.
